Galvanised or Powder Coated? Straightforward trade-off. Galvanising is a sacrificial zinc layer bonded into the steel; it will not chip off, it self-heals minor scratches, and it will outlast paint in a wet or coastal environment. Powder coat gives you colour and a softer visual result. A two-post lift carries the vehicle on four arms under the frame or pinch welds, leaving all four wheels hanging free. It is the fastest lift to work under and the one most general repair bays are built around.

What to check before you order

• Ceiling height — a clear-floor lift needs room for the overhead beam, a baseplate lift does not
• Concrete thickness and cure: four inches of 3,000 psi concrete is the usual minimum
• Symmetric or asymmetric columns — asymmetric rotates the car back so the doors clear the posts
• Arm reach at full drop, if you intend to lift both a low sports car and a long-wheelbase truck
